Bridleless Ride: Can Can Lena- Ghost Riders in the Sky

This ride shows Stacy and Can Can Lena (aka Hailey) a five year old quarter horse mare. This was a groundbreaking ride...the first time a horse had been shown without a bridle, neck rope, or any other additional steering aid.

The record setting ride sent shock waves through the equine industry. This video was taken at the National Reining Horse Association Futurity show. Yes, they won.

Fun Facts:

  • The first million dollar rider in the NRHA (a rider whose winnings add up to a million dollars), Bill Horn, told Stacy as she rode out of the arena, "That is the most amazing thing I have seen on horseback."
  • Stacy attempted this ride about 45 days earlier at a major competition, and was so nervous that she went off pattern and didn't place. The crowd was very upset with the judges ruling because they had been so impressed with the ride.
  • Stacy's states that her first 'failed ride' taught her how to control her nerves and made this winning ride, as well as those that followed, possible.
  • This mare is the mother of Stacy's other bridleless champion: Can Can Vaquero
